It is an honor and privilege to be able to address a few words to you today on behalf of my mother’s family on the occasion of the dedication of this garden courtyard, which will be made so beautiful by the inclusion of native and local plants and flowers. The idea of such a planting was one that she had been very keen on herself during her years as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Millicent Rogers Museum, and it is undoubtedly the case the she would have been very pleased with this.

Joan was from New Orleans, so that's a little bit different from northern New Mexico. She totally redid our home. She did the ironwork, all of the adobe renovations, the windows and she picked the colors. She made it one of the prettiest homes in northern New Mexico.

My mother was the most remarkable woman I've ever known. I mean everyone may think that about their mother, but mine... When I was in college, she just announced to us one day that they were going to move to New Mexico. She was going to pursue her dream and passion of being an artist.
